The walk

The day begins in Calvià village and climbs — gently at first through a smart residential edge with wide views and striking houses, then more steeply on a mix of road, track and path, about 250 m up. Up top the route mellows into a wide, easy track along ancient terraces, quiet and remote after the busier start.

A country lane then takes you down the valley towards Puigpunyent and on to Son Puig — a manor house in about seven hectares of vines, run by the family that owns it. You finish with a guided visit to the bodega and vineyard and your choice of tasting, the home-made tapas as much a part of it as the wine.

Guide’s tipThe climb out of Calvià is the hardest part and it’s early; after that it’s easy terrace tracks all the way to the vines. Choose the guided tasting for the tapas.

At the bodega

Son Puig has grown wine since the 16th century, on terraces and open ground around the old manor house. The tapas that come with the tasting are all made on the estate.

You choose your tasting when you book — it is a per-person supplement added to the walk. All prices include 21% VAT.

Common questions

How do we get to the start?

The walk starts at Calvià village, in the South West of the Serra de Tramuntana. There is parking near the start if you drive; otherwise we can arrange a private transfer or point you to the nearest bus. We send exact directions and the meeting time once you have booked.

Is this walk right for us?

It is graded Moderate. You will want to be comfortable with 250 m of climbing and around 3.5 hours on your feet over uneven ground, but no special experience is needed. If you are not sure, tell us how you usually walk and we will be honest about whether it fits.

Can we bring children?

Yes, on a private walk — just tell us their ages in advance so we set the right pace. Parents look after their own children throughout, including carrying younger ones.

When is the best time of year to do it?

Good most of the year. From late spring the open climbs get hot, so we start earlier in the day — or point you to a shadier route. Just ask when you book.

Is there a minimum group size for the bodega tasting?

It depends which tasting you pick: the “Short visit + 2-wine tasting” has no minimum; the “Guided visit + 3-wine tasting” needs 5 or more; the “Guided visit + 4 wines & finger food” needs 8 or more. The calculator on this page flags it if your group is smaller.
