An old favourite: a steady climb through the Orient valley to a ruined hilltop castle, with a legendary lamb lunch on the way down.
Good for most fitness levels and families with older children — a gentle day, though the ground is rarely flat.
From the quiet road between Alaró and Orient the path climbs gently through olive groves, then winds up through holm-oak woods to join the ancient cobbled way to the castle. Stepped switchbacks lead into the gatehouse of Castell d'Alaró, where you stop to explore the ruins and take in the sweep of view towards Palma and the high peaks.
Your guide fills in the history — centuries of sieges between Moors and Christians, and the stories that have grown around the place. Then it is a gentle zig-zag back down through the woods to Es Verger, the famously rustic "lamb restaurant", for lunch, and a short track into Alaró village to finish.
Guide’s tipBook the Es Verger lamb lunch when you book the walk — it fills up, and it’s the best possible reason to keep the pace honest on the descent.
