The ultimate get-away-from-it-all walk — charcoal tracks, gnarled olives and dappled holm-oak forest where the quiet is total.
Good for anyone reasonably fit and happy with a few hours on their feet over uneven ground. No special experience needed.
From the manor estate of Son Fortesa, on the edge of Puigpunyent, the path climbs steadily along old charcoal-burners' tracks to reach terraces of ancient olive trees, a spring, wild goats and a tumbledown farmhouse — glimpses of how the inland island worked a century ago.
Then you are into dense holm-oak forest, all shifting light and shade, past a lime kiln, before a cobbled trail descends across terracing with far-reaching mountain views and fine examples of Mallorcan dry-stone walling. A couple of kilometres of back road bring you into Puigpunyent and its bars.
Guide’s tipThis one is about the quiet — phones away, walk softly, and let the guide point out the charcoal platforms and the lime kiln you’d otherwise walk straight past.
