Difficult

This spectacular walk is on the edge Pollensa, and from the peaks we climb we get the most sensational views of the whole area - the Bays of Pollensa and Alcudia, Formentor and some of the islands highest neighbouring peaks - Puig Tomir and Puig Roig. It's a hike of many contrasts and variety and we highly recommend it. It's a challenging walk and requires a good level of fitness, as we climb more than 600m. We walk along a combination of dry stone paths, wide farm tracks, narrow goat trails and sometimes we just have to pick our way through the carritx grass and across the rocks to reach the summit of Cuculla de Fartaritx.

We set off in the Vall d'en Marc and immediately start a long and steady climb along an old dry stone mule path, which winds its way through beautiful holm oak woods. Gradually we begin to get views of the valley and Pollensa and the sea beyond. Eventually we emerge from the woods to a glorious plateau with sheep grazing and sheep-bells tinkling around us. We catch our breath and stroll along a wide farm track - flat for a while - and admire the views, and imagine how life once was in the beautiful old fincas that now lie abandoned and crumbling.

After a delightful stroll with views of Puig Tomir ahead of us, we start to climb again, along a wide track before we go "off piste" and follow a narrow goat trail through the carritx to our first peak, from which we now get far-reaching views of the Bays of Pollensa and Alcudia and Formentor.

From here the terrain is quite challenging underfoot with little in the way of path to follow. We work our way over rocks and pick our route through the carritx and finally come to the last climb before we reach the summit of Cuculla de Fartaritx at over 700m - and amazing 360º views!

Our descent back to the valley is steep and tricky in parts but we soon find ourselves back on the plateau where we saw the old fincas, and we then return via the same, lovely dry stone path through the woods and back to where we started from.

Highlights
