Easy

So you thought it was just Palma that was rich in Modernist art (see our Palma – Art & Architecture tour) ...? Well Sóller also has its fair share of Modernist gems… On this excursion, with the expert help of our guide Peter, we’ll discover and explore Sóller’s Modernist art collection. We’ll also stroll around the pretty villages surrounding Sóller, and we’ll stop for a typical Mallorquin lunch. After lunch we’ll continue our stroll in the Sóller valley and then return to Sóller town and transport back to Palma.

We'll start our tour at the train station, where there are works by Miró and Picasso as well as Dali – free for all to see and enjoy. The Miró exhibition consists of a collection of the artist’s lithographs and tapestries and the Picasso exhibition displays an important collection of his ceramics.

Our next stop is the recently opened Ca'n Prunera modernist art gallery. This is a double treat, as the building is well worth a visit in itself, quite apart from the collection it contains.

The gallery’s permanent collection comprises works by national and international artists (e.g. Picasso, Miró, Matisse, Basquiat, Rusiñol, Magritte, Leger and Chillida) who were either part of the modernist movement or inspired by it. The main focus is on local artists or those in some way connected with the Balearics. There is also an art library with some books illustrated by Joan Miró.

The Ca'n Prunera building was designed by architect Josep Rubio i Bellver (whose other works in Sóller are the façade of the Church of Sant Bartomeu and the next-door Banco de Sóller) and fully restored in recent years. Its wrought iron work and magnificent staircase and façade are well worth seeing. There are also interesting murals, glasswork, furniture and elements of Sóller’s former splendour.

We’ll then stroll on through the streets of Sóller town and out into the surrounding hills and villages, where we'll meander down country lanes among the citrus groves, enjoy a delicious Mallorquin lunch at a local spot and then return to Sóller.
